As I mentioned in my e-mail yesterday, San Diego is in the midst of an extraordinary and historic heat wave.
Yesterday, for the first time, the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (OES) warned that extreme heat was straining the state’s energy grid. This will surely be the case with another Flex Alert scheduled today from 4 to 9 p.m.
In particular, San Diego Gas and Electric has asked ratepayers to conserve energy, and they’ve issued a list of “circuits” that could be affected by rotating outages lasting one to two hours – perhaps longer.
Many of those circuits listed on the SDGE Rotating Outages list are in Mira Mesa. Given the size of our community, that’s not surprising.
You can find your circuit number on your SDGE bill at the “Detail of Current Charges” section.
As a service, I’ve listed the individual Mira Mesa-area circuits on the current list from SDGE below, and I’d encourage you to check to see if any of these circuit numbers match yours. If so, be advised you may – I repeat, may – be subject to an outage if the power grid continues to be stressed during today’s Flex Alert.
These are all Mira Mesa circuits as identified by SDGE:

If your circuit is listed here, ensure your cellphone is fully charged, your refrigerator is secure, that any work you’re doing on your computer is saved, and that plug-in medical devices may be affected in case of an outage.
Cooling stations are open throughout the county, including the Mira Mesa Library at Camino Ruiz and New Salem Street through 6 p.m.
Also, as I mentioned in my note yesterday, our Mira Mesa neighbors look out for each other. That’s what makes us a community. Be sure to check in on your elderly neighbors or those who live alone, and keep pets safe, cool, and hydrated.
We’ll get through this, together.
