Caitlyn Powell Wanner: It’s Time to Take Responsibility, America

By Caitlyn Powell Wanner

I was fired on Friday, Feb. 14th. I loved my job in the U.S. Forest Service and worked hard last year to keep the forest a natural, beautiful, and safe place. This year, as the Forest Service, National Park Service, and Bureau of Land Management are struggling, please be gentle to your public lands.

Understand this: This isn’t about “fraud” or “excess.” If you fired EVERY employee working for the federal government, you’d save less money than Trump is asking for his border wall. This is about a man dismantling our institutions so no one can stand up to his greed. I wasn’t his aim, but I was the low hanging fruit.

And before you say “Oh, I’m sorry you lost your job,” remember this hostile takeover is coming for YOU TOO. Every American will be affected by this. What have you done to stand up? Have you written to your congressmen yet?

Let’s STOP with the mental gymnastics to justify why we elected ourselves into this mess, and STOP pushing the blame on our neighbor. It’s time to take responsibility, America. I don’t want your pity, we need your anger.
