Push Back Against the Squeeze on the Middle Class

Happy Summer Solstice!

If you’ve been to the grocery store lately, or filling your gas tank, or paying your bills, you know we’re getting squeezed. And it’s not right.

Not only are we paying the highest water and sewage rates in California, but San Diego Gas and Electric (SDGE) is charging us the highest electricity rates in the nation. And SDGE’s parent company is working with the California Public Utilities Commission to subvert rooftop solar use in California.

To be clear, I will always stand with middle class ratepayers over shareholders. Had I been elected in 2018, I would’ve been the deciding vote AGAINST the 20-year franchise extension the city granted to SDGE. And unlike my opponent, I’m not receiving money from anyone affiliated with SDGE.

And in the midst of this, what does Downtown worry about? Squeezing in another unwanted bicycle lane and rezoning D6 neighborhoods while ignoring our broken streets and deteriorating recreation centers and opportunities to build real affordable housing. What does that tell you about who is making the decisions at City Hall?

You and I know City Hall needs a major change, and we can put our thumb on the scale by electing someone to San Diego City Council who represents us – not the establishment.

I will push back against shameful, money-wasting scandals like 101 Ash Street and the dangerous, secretive realignment of Gold Coast Drive – which our campaign stood against while my opponent remained silent.

We need new blood, new leadership, and a Neighborhoods First approach at City Hall. That’s why I’m running for San Diego City Council.

We need solutions, not a vanity project. San Diego families can’t afford anything less in this economy.

I know not everyone can afford to donate every time we ask. Times are tight. But if just one out of every three people reading this note could make even a modest donation, we’d quickly hit our goal.

Thank you for your generosity, your kind words, and your support. Now let’s win this for our District 6 community!

And enjoy this longest day of the year!
