I urge you, your friends, colleagues, and family who live in District 2 to vote for Mandy before June 2nd and clear a path for her to win the general election in November.
I met Mandy Havlik during my first run for San Diego City Council in 2018, and got to know her and her family while I was a consultant on the ReWild Mission Bay effort and as a San Diego County planning commissioner.
With her effective support on the ReWild campaign, Mandy showed us she really knows San Diego, from the importance of preserving our canyons and open space, to how the successful restoration of Mission Bay’s wetlands will result in huge environmental and public benefits for the city, from carbon sequestration to clean water.
But beyond our environment, Mandy and I also know how expensive it is to live in San Diego. We know how isolated City Hall has become from the consequences of its decisions, how our streets continue to get worse every year, and how the city could actually support affordable housing opportunities without ceding entire neighborhoods to crowded backyard apartment complexes and overpriced ADUs.
On housing, infrastructure, our environment and more, San Diego neighbors and planning groups must have their input taken seriously by the city as a partner — not waved away in favor of the same special interests and wealthy political donors that are squeezing our middle class and ruining San Diego neighborhoods.
I’ve always supported ratepayers in our struggle against San Diego Gas and Electric’s profit-driven monopoly, just as I will always side with neighborhoods in the fight to stop disruptive, unsustainable development and the destruction of existing homes and apartments too often replaced by unaffordable, one-bedroom units with zero parking.
Mandy understands this dynamic, and she will be a valued ally in the effort to reshape City Hall, and a strong, effective voice in breaking the cycle of unresponsive, dismissive local government. That’s why I’m proud to give my endorsement to Mandy Havlik in her campaign for San Diego City Council District 2.
I urge you, your friends, colleagues, and family who live in District 2 to vote for Mandy before June 2nd and clear a path for her to win the general election in November.
While you’re at it, please contribute to Mandy’s campaign today. And while financial contributions are crucial, please also volunteer to lend a hand and help spread the word!
