Tommy brings his presentation on the rise of media misinformation over the last 50 years to the Encinitas and North Coast Democratic Club on Saturday, June 5, at 12:30 p.m.
An on-air radio host with over 25 years of broadcast experience in markets including San Diego, Seattle, and Portland, Tommy saw the rise and impact of hate-driven AM radio in real time in the wake of the Fairness Doctrine repeal in 1987. The passage of the Telecommunications Act of 1996 further deregulated the industry, and gave rise to many of the media conglomerates that retain a massive influence on how political attitudes are shaped in the U.S. today.
